Rutger published: Invitation to Participate in Maryland LGBTQ+ Community Needs Survey

Maryland's making some bold moves when it comes down connecting with its LGBTQ+ folks. They're rolling out a big initiative aimed at really understanding what life looks like through their eyes. The Maryland Commission on LGBTQIA+ Affairs has kicked off a comprehensive survey designed from top-to-bottom with LGBTQ+ residents in mind. It aims at gathering honest feedback and insights, all in an effort towards building a more supportive and inclusive community.

Diving deep: A survey on LGBTQ+ inclusion

Teaming up with University College Eastern Shore, this survey will run from October 1 through December 1. The main aim? To gather critical data that'll help shape future policies, programs, and resources tailored specifically around Maryland's LGBTQ+ community.

LGBTQ+ Marylanders now have an open, anonymous platform where they can speak up about their needs and concerns. The survey mainly consists quite a few multiple-choice questions, and won't take more than 15-20 minutes. Any Maryland resident who's at least 18 years old, and who feels up-to-it, both physically and mentally, can pitch in, as per details in its informed consent statement.

Using data-driven decisions as a tool

Back in 2021, Maryland's General Assembly created this very commission—it was designed specifically with Maryland's LGBTQ+ residents in mind, focusing on their unique struggles. Gathering and analyzing data from this survey could significantly enhance inclusivity and combat discrimination. The insights it reveals will be invaluable in creating fair policies and effective practices around LGBTQ+ inclusion throughout Maryland.

The commission itself sits under Maryland's Governor's Office within its Community Initiatives, made up by 15 governor-appointed members. Their mission? To amplify LGBTQ+ voices out in policy-making, while keeping their objectives closely aligned with residents' real needs.

Shaping Maryland's future: Survey impact on LGBTQ+ community

For LGBTQ+ Marylanders, this survey presents a significant chance at steering future policymaking. It'll shed light on areas in desperate need and guide effective resource allocation, equipping Maryland's Commission with insight necessary towards real, meaningful state-wide change.
