In a chat with Netflix Tudum, creator Alice Osemman, who prefers she/they pronouns, revealed that this film will "wrap up Nick and Charlie's journey." With Nick about university and Charlie discovering his independence, long-distance poses a significant hurdle. As Osemman put it, "Doubts take hold, and their relationship faces its biggest challenge yet."

Osemman intends this movie not only as a "beautiful and emotional send-off," but also as an exploration on what makes love endure, deepen, or evolve, giving everyone profound insight on love dynamics.

This movie deeply dives growth and change. Osemman muses, "At 18 and 17, Nick and Charlie are rushing adulthood. Many teen relationships don't survive that significant shift. Are Nick and Charlie destined forever? If so, why?"

The film captures this transformation; Nick and Charlie shifting from a youthful romance towards deeper commitment. "I want heart teenage love capable, how adolescence fade, and its larger role in life," Osemman said.
