Rutger published: Heartstopper Actor Bradley Riches Joins Emmerdale: A Dream Role in British Soap

Bradley Riches Joins Emmerdale Cast

Renowned for his role in Netflix's celebrated series Heartstopper, Bradley Riches is set to make waves in the beloved British soap opera Emmerdale. Riches, who captured hearts as the endearing Truham Grammar School student James McEwan, is taking on a series regular role in the long-standing soap, beginning this May.

Set in the picturesque Yorkshire Dales, Emmerdale has been a staple of British television since its inception in 1972, captivating audiences with its compelling storytelling and vibrant cast of characters. With a legacy spanning decades, the show is considered one of the UK's most cherished dramas.

In a statement reflecting his enthusiasm, Riches expressed his delight in joining the iconic soap. "I’m beyond excited to be joining Emmerdale. It’s a real bucket list moment for me, especially since it was my grandad’s favourite soap. I just know he’d be over the moon," he shared.

Riches also conveyed his gratitude for the warm welcome he has received from the cast and crew. "Everyone has been so lovely and welcoming, and the village is even more amazing in real life. I absolutely love my character, though I can’t spill too much just yet! I’m just so grateful for this opportunity and can’t wait for everyone to see what’s in store," he added.

A New Character Emerges

While details about Riches' character are being kept under wraps, he playfully hinted in a video post that his character’s name is Lewis, though an Emmerdale producer humorously cautioned him for the reveal. The anticipation surrounding his role is palpable, with fans eager to see how his character will integrate into the fabric of the show.

Laura Shaw, a producer on Emmerdale, shared her excitement about the new addition to the cast. "Bradley brings a wealth of talent, and his warmth, wit, and charisma make him perfect for this new role. We have some wonderful stories for him to play, and we can’t wait for the audience to see Bradley bring his new character bursting into life on screen," she said.

Bradley Riches: A Rising Star

Beyond Heartstopper, Bradley Riches has made significant strides in his acting career. His recent appearance on Celebrity Big Brother last spring showcased his personality to a broader audience, culminating in a respectable sixth-place finish. The exposure led to his first major theatre role in the West End production of Babies the Musical.

Riches' versatility as an actor is evident in his diverse roles. He portrayed Freddie in the BBC's queer slasher series Wreck and took on the lead role of Peter Pan in The Further Adventures of Peter Pan: The Return of Captain Hook at the Aylesbury Waterside Theatre. These roles have cemented his reputation as a dynamic performer capable of embodying a wide range of characters.

A Warm Welcome from the Emmerdale Family

As Riches begins filming his initial scenes with the cast, set to air in May, he has received a flood of welcoming messages from his new Emmerdale family. Lisa Riley, known on the show as Mandy Dingle, expressed her excitement, stating, "He’s an absolute dream… welcome to our farm @brad_riches, you fit in perfectly."

Michelle Hardwick, who portrays Vanessa Woodfield, also extended a warm welcome, adding, "Welcome to the family @brad_riches, looking forward to meeting you." The camaraderie among the cast is a testament to the show's enduring legacy and the close-knit community it has fostered over the years.

Emmerdale continues to air on ITV1 and ITVX on weekdays, offering fans a daily escape into the dramatic lives of its beloved characters. As Riches embarks on this new chapter, audiences are eagerly anticipating the fresh energy he will bring to the show.
