Amanda Donaghey, mother and grieving heart behind crash victim Fiongal Greenlaw-Meek, has been rocked by anguish after discovering that she buried someone else's body, not her son's.>
Fiongal, just 39, along with his husband Jamie, 45, tragically ended among 260 souls lost in Air India Flight 171's crash. Catastrophe struck moments post-takeoff from Ahmedabad on June 12th, as they were flying back home after an anniversary celebration in India.>
Before fate changed everything, Fiongal and Jamie, who ran The Wellness Foundry, had joyfully captured and shared a video on Instagram, radiating happiness mere hours before boarding their ill-fated flight. The accident claimed 52 British lives.>
In her quest, Amanda journeyed across continents, traveling all over India and giving a blood sample, hoping it would help identify her son's remains through DNA. Eight excruciating days later, a supposed match was made, and she returned home with what she thought was Fiongal's body.>
But on July 5th, another blow hit hard; UK authorities revealed after further tests that what lay in that casket wasn't Fiongal at all.>
"This situation's beyond appalling," Amanda expressed in a profound interview with a UK paper. "We don't even know whose remains those are. I suspected something was off, but having it confirmed broke me. We're urging our government: please, do everything possible so Fiongal can truly come home.">
Amanda's nightmare sheds light on a broader crisis, as many families reel from similar, painfully avoidable mishaps. James Healy-Pratt, a lawyer known in aviation circles, mentioned, "Of 12 caskets sent from India, two weren't handled correctly. If that's representative, there could be around 40 mistakes in total.">
One family discovered even their mother's expected resting place contained "other remains" instead.>
Grieving loved ones are now pressing UK leaders like Prime Minister Keir Starmer, demanding accountability from Indian authorities on measures that were marred by opacity and inadequate assistance.>
The global LGBTQ+ family has wrapped their arms around these grieving families, extending love and insistence on accountability and openness. This tragedy, revealing deep losses, has also spotlighted dire flaws in victim recovery and identification standards.>
As these families navigate their tumultuous search, countless others stand alongside them, amplifying calls demanding justice and clarity.>
We encourage you all—share your support, remember compassion in comments. Your empathy holds immense power right now.>
Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with Amanda Donaghey, her family, and everyone touched by this sorrowful event.>
