Rutger published: "He's a Real Boy": Parents Share Heartfelt Messages About Their Trans Kids

In a time when stories about anti-trans sentiment often fill our newsfeeds, it's essential not forget about those countless acts filled with love and support showered upon transgender individuals by their families. Every single day, thousands upon thousands stand alongside their trans children, offering hope, love, and a solid sense community. These dedicated parents go above and beyond, tirelessly shielding their kids from harm and instilling pride in them.

To honor these incredible parents, we asked a simple yet deep question: What do you wish others understood about your trans child? Their heartfelt responses reveal an immense love and admiration that's truly inspiring.

Destined by nature

"Jack has been Jack from day one. Calling him our son never changed who he inherently was. Once we embraced him as our son Jack, it was like a whole new horizon unveiled itself. Just like any 5-year-old, he's curious, full life, and constantly learning. We see his unique perspective and can't help but be excited about his future. He's going places."

A marine biology dreamer

"My child has so much goodness give—just like any kid. They've been accepted a university where they'll study marine biology, chasing their dreams with such passion. Like anyone, they crave acceptance and love. They're one those friends everyone wishes they had, and we are fortunate beyond words."

Bravery every day

"My trans kids show more bravery daily than many do in a lifetime. They face each day with an open heart, living and loving out loud. They just want recognition as their true selves, not how society wants them. I'm so proud parent, seeing them bring about change."

Her trans pride

"All she wants be a kid. For people recognize her humanity, not just her identity. While she's proud being trans, she's creative, witty, and emotionally intelligent. Often, folks miss that because there's so much more her."

A divine gift

"A year after my son came out as trans, I spoke with a Tribal Elder about Two-Spirit. She said, 'Transgender people are gifts.' That conversation shifted my view, and now see my child a blessing—full love insight. Trans kids aren't mistakes; they're lessons and treasures."

Her true essence

"My daughter isn't just defined 'transgender.' She's an artist, musician, loving sibling, and a friend anyone's lucky have. Her transition was about shedding her layers, not changing. For me, watching her bloom has been humbling. She's a soul worth celebrating, not fearing."

Every path unique

"I'm a mom three, two trans and one cisgender. Each has a unique journey. One's out proud; one's partially closeted. One's medically transitioned; one's cool with social changes. I wish people realized that each journey's unique, and we're here, doing our utmost."

As real as they come

"He's as real a boy as it gets, just like Pinocchio. Everyone who meets him sees it. He's our boy."

Gentle souls, big dreams

"Our son, finishing high school, teeters between acting dreams and zookeeper aspirations. Our daughter juggles retail and creativity. Both are deeply loved, like any young ones, they have their worries."

Not all spaces are safe

"Even at just 11, my child knows some places aren't safe yet. They conceal their true self where they must, reminding us work's left. We need more safe spaces, and asking pronouns seem good starting point."

Home means safe

"At three, my son already knew he was a boy. Now he's 16, still always been. If every child could have safety and love home's provided, you bet I'd give it."
