Greg Louganis has dazzled at three Olympic Games: Montreal 1976, Los Angeles 1984, and Seoul 1988, clinching five medals in total. But his legacy isn't just about those breathtaking dives. In 1994, he courageously came out as gay, and a year later, he shared his HIV-positive status with a brave heart, becoming a powerful voice in support and advocacy within LGBTQ+ circles.

Recently, Louganis took a moment on Facebook, sharing some deeply personal reflections:

“As life keeps pushing forward, what are you ready, willing, and able, I am 65 years old, and I am asking just that. I am not who I used think I was. Not even close.”

Why Greg sold his medals

Sharing his reasons behind auctioning off three Olympic medals, which fetched him over $430,000, Louganis was candid: "I told it straight; I needed some dough. Some folks have businesses they flip, but I've got my medals. And I'm grateful," he admitted, with a mix honesty and introspection.

Upon selling his California home, he felt at ease with his decision and had only well wishes. "I blessed that house, hoping it fills its future with joy, love, peace, happiness, and a sense safety," he noted.

Finding strength in tough times

Those harrowing LA fires hit Louganis hard and got him thinking about his life and where he wants it headed. "I had close friends lose it all in both Woolsey and Palisades fires," he shared. "Their strength fuels me as I open myself up, ready accept and all possibilities."

He reflected on times he'd “closed himself off, down, and played small just make others comfy.” But now, he's eager discover who he truly might be beyond those old, external lenses.

"Instrument my coach's, Ron O'Brien's, creation, I was deeply honored, proud, and blessed. All done with love at its center," he remembered.

Welcome change in Panama

Now in Panama, Louganis eagerly awaits countless opportunities this new phase offers. He's ready dive deeper—this time within—no past constraints.

"Be checking in from Panama!" he wrapped up with a hopeful grin, itching see what's in store.
