GLAAD has delivered a startling report shedding light on a troubling rise in hate crimes against LGBTQ+ individuals across America in 2024. This essential data comes from GLAAD's ALERT Desk, their extremism reporting system, which highlights these growing concerns.>
The numbers speak volumes: in 2024 alone, GLAAD's ALERT Desk recorded at least 918 anti-LGBTQ+ incidents nationwide. That's about two and a half hate crimes each day. The incidents ranged from over 260 protests and 140 bomb threats, numerous acts vandalism, and 85 violent assaults.>
The study highlights just how severe these incidents have become, reporting at least 90 injuries and seven tragic deaths linked directly with anti-LGBTQ+ violence. Of particular concern, 447 incidents targeted members from trans, non-binary, and gender non-conforming communities.>
These figures represent a stark increase from previous years. GLAAD's earlier report in October 2024 noted that from June 2022 through June 2024, such incidents had risen by a staggering 112%, with over 1,850 recorded by their ALERT Desk.>

"Educators and school staff supporting LGBTQ+ students and colleagues are facing unprecedented hostility," Ellis pointed out. "We must defend those tirelessly creating inclusive environments in schools.">
The spike in these hate crimes hasn't gone unnoticed. Many organizations, including FBI's Crime Data Explorer, report significant increases in hate crimes tied sexual orientation or gender identity—up nearly a quarter from last year. It underscores GLAAD's findings and adds urgency lawmakers, community leaders, and public.>
