Rutger published: Gay Dads Capture Hearts with Inspirational Little League Journey

Back in 2018, Mo Brady and Justin Huff decided it was time their story got out there. They kicked off an Instagram account that gave people a glimpse inside their lives as a gay couple raising their son. Their goal? To shine a light on LGBTQ families on social media and create a welcoming corner where folks could find inspiration and connection.

Settled in suburban New Jersey, Mo and Justin, who officially said “I do” in 2012, thought up "Daddy, Papa, and Me Make 3" as more than just an Instagram account; they envisioned it as a supportive community where gay dads could share their own parenting adventures. Fast forward a few years, and they've got over 169,000 followers who tune in regularly, captivated by their genuine experiences.

Falling in love with baseball

Then, there was October. Mo and Justin shared a particularly touching post that really hit home with their audience. It was all about their 9-year-old boy's newfound love: baseball. Their dive headfirst as Little League dads not only brought unexpected joy but also a whole new perspective. Despite not having much sports knowledge themselves, they found this journey surprisingly rewarding.

The post, "Becoming Baseball Dads Changed Everything," really resonated. It showed how a simple love like baseball could forge bonds with other families, even in environments where Mo and Justin didn't always see themselves mirrored. It was a reminder that some passions are universal.

A story that captured hearts

And just like that, their tale went viral. It garnered 6,300 likes and a floodgate opened with comments from followers who found bits and pieces they related with. Many shared their own stories as LGBTQ parents in sports. Justin mentioned, "It was incredibly touching, seeing how our story resonated with people who felt seen through our experiences."

Their son's passion didn't just appear overnight; he'd always been drawn in by baseball, even since those playful tee ball games before he'd even started kindergarten. Noticing this spark, Mo and Justin were all in, signing him up with a team and cheering him on.

Embracing a new love

Even though Mo and Justin hadn't grown up with a love affair with sports, their son's excitement was contagious. "As parents, seeing your child light up about something makes you want in," Justin said. "It was exciting being part and parcel with his interests."

Surprisingly, they've even gotten swept up in stats and sabermetrics—stuff they'd never imagined caring about. This unexpected shared interest has pulled them tighter as a family, as they root from sidelines and let impromptu baseball debates spill over at home.

Building confidence and community

Every Little League season brings new families and conversations about their unique family structure. Their son's unabashed confidence in explaining his family setup leaves Mo and Justin beaming with pride.

"He proudly introduces us as his two dads without a second thought," Mo shared. "His self-assurance sparks acceptance among his peers, underscoring how authenticity speaks volumes."

Connecting across generations

Baseball has managed more than just a bond in their immediate family. It has sparked new conversations with Mo's father, a huge Major League Baseball fan. "Now, we've got loads more in common," Mo commented. These exchanges have added rich layers and depth within their family.

At heart, Mo and Justin hope their journey encourages other gay parents not only be open but also dive deep with their kids' interests, no matter how unfamiliar. Justin shared, "When you let go and stop thinking 'this isn't what I envisioned,' it turns out incredibly rewarding. You watch your child blossom and carry that confidence."

Their heartwarming story beautifully captures how investing in your child's passions can create not just shared memories but a loving, inclusive environment as well.
