Francois Arnaud on the Unexpected Trajectory of His Acting Career

Celebrated for his role in the queer-themed ice hockey series Heated Rivalry, actor Francois Arnaud recently opened up about the journey of his career, which could have skyrocketed him to fame earlier on, and why he feels grateful it didn’t.

At 40, Arnaud has achieved significant recognition for his portrayal of Scott Hunter, the openly gay ice hockey player in Heated Rivalry. In a candid discussion with writer Evan Ross Katz on the podcast Shut Up Evan, Arnaud shared insights about his two-decade-long career and its pivotal moments.

Arnaud's acting journey began with a role in the 2007 dramedy C.A. Since then, he has built an impressive portfolio, with appearances in popular TV series such as Yellowjackets, Schitt’s Creek, and The Borgias, along with his role in the critically praised film I Killed My Mother (2009).

Reflecting on his early career, Arnaud revealed that he auditioned for significant roles in major film franchises like Pirates of the Caribbean and Fifty Shades of Grey. “As a younger actor, still finding my voice, I believed that a moment of intense fame was imminent,” he recalled.

When speaking about his audition for Fifty Shades of Grey, Arnaud admitted, “I questioned whether I was prepared to embrace that level of scrutiny and attention. Part of me was honestly terrified by the prospect of becoming a household name at that stage.”

Despite the allure of those opportunities, he valued a more grounded existence. “I longed for the career benefits of such roles, such as choosing my projects freely, but at the same time, I cherished normalcy and meaningful personal relationships, which such fame might have disrupted,” he explained.

Reflecting on missed opportunities and his career path, Arnaud expressed gratitude for the way things unfolded. “Had I reached that level of fame at a younger age, I’m not sure I would have coped well. I might not have survived the pressure,” he candidly shared.

Concern for Fellow Cast Members and Future Aspirations

Now more seasoned, Arnaud acknowledges his capacity to handle fame, yet he expresses concern for his younger co-stars in Heated Rivalry. Connor Storrie, Hudson Williams, and Robbie G.K., who are in their mid to late twenties, are experiencing newfound fame.

“Working with talented but less experienced actors, I sometimes worry about their journey ahead. However, they’re incredibly talented and prepared,” Arnaud said, expressing faith in their abilities to manage the challenges of recognition.

Besides discussing his current projects, Francois Arnaud also revealed his admiration for the acclaimed series The White Lotus. A fan of its creator, Mike White, Arnaud lightheartedly expressed interest in joining the cast for its anticipated fourth season, which is to be set in France. “I’m definitely part of the The White Lotus fandom," he remarked, adding, "If they need someone for the French season, I’m available and speak the language!”

Looking forward, Arnaud is set to star in Someone’s Daughter, a gripping kidnap thriller coming out later this year. This project marks another milestone in his career, showing his versatility and depth as an actor.

Francois Arnaud’s reflections on his career trajectory offer a poignant insight into the challenges and triumphs of navigating fame in Hollywood. As he continues to build his career, he remains mindful of the balance between professional success and personal well-being.
