Rutger published: Fox News Segment Criticizes Young LGBTQ+ Identifications Without Basis

In a recent controversial segment on Fox News, host Will Cain invited guest Link Lauren, a gay influencer known for his transphobic views, to discuss a Gallup poll indicating that 23% of young adults aged 18 to 29 identify as LGBTQ+ and that over half of those identify as bisexual. The discussion quickly devolved into baseless claims and misconceptions about LGBTQ+ identities.

Misunderstanding and Misrepresenting LGBTQ+ Identity

Cain began the segment by questioning how such a large percentage of young people could identify within the LGBTQ+ "alphabet of acronyms." Lauren responded by suggesting that young people create identities "out of thin air," dismissing well-established identities such as pansexual, polysexual, and nonbinary as recent fabrications.

These identities, however, have been recognized and discussed in queer communities, academic circles, and media for decades. Pansexual and polysexual orientations fall under the broader bisexual and queer umbrellas, while nonbinary identities are part of the trans and queer spectrum.

Lauren argued that young people are embracing these identities due to a lack of fulfillment from "faith, family, conservative values, and occupation." He suggested that this has led them to adopt what he described as a "trans cult" or "gender cult," without providing any evidence for his claims.

Queer Identity: A Political or Natural Expression?

Cain echoed Lauren's view, suggesting that young people seek "victimization," "oppression," and "power" through identifying as LGBTQ+. This perspective overlooks the fact that many people view their queer identities as inherent or as a part of the natural diversity of human experience, rather than a strategy for power.

Contrary to their claims, anti-LGBTQ+ stigma continues to disempower many in the community, particularly in conservative political climates. Queer identities often represent a form of self-expression and resistance against systemic oppression rather than an opportunistic label.

The Complexity of Sexual Orientation

Cain expressed confusion about how young people could identify as bisexual when studies suggest a decline in sexual activity among younger generations. He noted that a 2022 poll indicated notable percentages of Gen Z adults had never had sex.

However, sexual orientation is about attraction and identity, not just sexual activity. Many individuals understand their sexual orientation long before they engage in sexual activities. Thus, identifying as bisexual is entirely valid, regardless of one's sexual history.

Instead of addressing Cain's question, Lauren blamed media and educational figures for "indoctrinating" children into trans identities and surgeries, despite surgeries on minors being extremely rare. His assertions lacked substantiation and did not align with data, as the Gallup poll surveyed adults.

The Threat of Anti-LGBTQ+ Rhetoric

Lauren concluded by thanking political leaders for alleged "protections" against transgender individuals, echoing narratives that see queer identities as threats to traditional Western values. This rhetoric, common in anti-LGBTQ+ circles, overlooks the longstanding presence of LGBTQ+ people in Western history.

Cain bizarrely concluded the segment by claiming that those identifying as bisexual in the poll were primarily "white girls" making "mistakes," a statement unsupported by the poll's findings, which showed higher identification rates among Hispanic and Black individuals.

In reality, LGBTQ+ identities encompass a diverse spectrum of experiences and cultures. Despite the segment's misleading information, the visibility of young LGBTQ+ individuals highlights the growing recognition and acceptance of queer identities.
