Bernardeschi's journey has not been without challenges, especially when it comes down against homophobic slurs. Speaking out against this ridicule, Bernardeschi said, "What's wrong with being open? If I were, I'd be proud." He praised those who live authentically, saying that everyone should have that freedom.
During 2022's Qatar World Cup, Bernardeschi wore Pride rainbow stripes on his hand on Rai 1, showing his support loud and clear.

Bernardeschi understands how deeply homophobia can wound, especially young athletes. Reflecting on his Fiorentina days, he said, "At 20, it hurt. I laugh now, but it sure didn't then." He champions mental health support, sharing how therapy has helped him: "I've been working on myself not just recently but starting three years ago. Pinpointing where issues begin helps resolve them."
