In an inspiring show of community support, fans of the beloved series Our Flag Means Death have come together to raise an extraordinary amount of over $85,000 to assist trans youth in need. This remarkable effort was sparked despite the cancellation of the series last year, after just two seasons.
The initiative began with a craft fair organized by a dedicated group of fans. Their goal was to raise funds for the Campaign for Southern Equality's Trans Youth Emergency Project. Initially, the target was set at $5,000, a sum that was astonishingly achieved within just 11 minutes of launching the campaign. The momentum did not stop there; fans continued to contribute, surpassing subsequent targets until the total reached an impressive $85,417.
Global Support for a Worthy Cause
Donations poured in from all corners of the globe, as fans rallied to support the cause. The sense of community and solidarity was palpable, with contributions coming in from various countries, united by the shared love for the show and its message of inclusivity and acceptance.
The creator of Our Flag Means Death, David Jenkins, played a significant role in this fundraising effort. He took to social media to share his intent to contribute unique items for auction. Among the items was the Act of Grace prop, a memorable piece from the show, featuring doodles by the star Taika Waititi, who portrayed Blackbeard. This exclusive item alone was sold for more than $12,000.
In addition to the prop, Jenkins also donated a promotional teapot, which had been sent out by HBO during the first season. This item too proved popular, selling for over $5,000.

Recently, members of the fandom organized an auction and fair, selling handcrafted items to benefit the Campaign for Southern Equality. The original goal of $5,000 was swiftly met, and the ongoing effort has now raised over $50,000 in a matter of weeks.
