Cat Walker Jerome faces homophobia in a London park

Jerome, cherished by many online fans and known best as a delightful cat walker, faced a shocking case. As he was enjoying a stroll in a London park, he became a target. Known and loved online with his partner, Jacques, they've captivated folks with stories and snaps featuring Lupine, their sophisticated Russian Blue, and Rajah, a stunning Bengal that Londoners adore as their own leopard-lookalike. Their heartwarming cat tales and therapeutic vibes have garnered them over 140,000 followers, offering people a much-needed break from everyday stress.

Jacques has shared their goal: “We just want people happy.” Through their online adventures, they deliver joy with Lupine and Rajah, giving everyone a small escape from life in a bustling city.

A Sunday afternoon takes a dark turn

But this joyful mission hit a snag one Sunday in January. While Jerome was out walking Lupine at a park, someone they've had awkward run-ins with before decided it was time. The man hurled a homophobic slur at Jerome, who was quick enough on his feet and caught it on video.

Talking about that unsettling day, Jerome shared, “It felt unreal, like I just blanked out and couldn't quite process what happened.” The incident, which he reported, left him unnerved, making him think twice about going back there so soon.

Reflection: shock, sadness, and strength

Looking back at what he recorded, Jerome was filled with a range. Shock and a resigned kind. "To feel unsafe in a park, just doing something as simple as walking your pet, rattles you. Yet, somehow, it felt all too familiar,” he mused.

Documenting what happened gave him a sense. “I'm done putting up with this kind,” he asserted, knowing it was key not only. It shines light on an ugliness that refuses quietly.

The reality about anti-LGBTQ+ hate crimes

Despite last year's stats suggesting a slight drop in reports about anti-LGBTQ+ hate crime, it might not be. Especially since figures from London don't make it onto that tally. Alarmingly, far too many crimes just aren't reported; a 2017 survey shockingly showed that a whopping 91% stayed silent.

This incident serves stark. Challenges remain, no matter how far we've come legally and socially. The local police, in response, launched an investigation. They stand firm on their zero-tolerance, sending a clear message.

Rising above and finding community

Jerome's experience underscores what many live with daily, especially out. His and Jacques' journey does more than entertain—it inspires others. It's about resisting prejudice and embracing who we are, loudly and proudly.

We'd love. Have thoughts? Let's chat in comments. Please, keep our conversation respectful, standing and lifting each within community.
