The thrill in finding freedom through movement
Leaping through air gives an unmatched feeling free and alive. Every sprint down that track, finding full speed in just a few steps, then soaring skyward filled me with a remarkable sense control. Before I truly accepted who I was, these feelings were mostly tied track time. The daily grind training and competing became my safe haven, offering a chance take charge and helping me navigate hesitations about embracing real self.
No matter how tough day was or overwhelmed I felt about sexuality, running let me drop those burdens and embrace authenticity. Track became my launchpad toward self-acceptance and opening up about my truth with others.
From feeling alone acceptance: my transformation
Reflecting back, surrounded by unwavering support from teammates at Colorado State, I realized why track resonated so deeply. As a young athlete, it was familiar feel isolated—different, like I didn't belong.
By senior year high school, running finally caught attention Division 1 colleges. This milestone sparked pride and control over life. I was hitting personal records and, really happy first time.
But sadly, my final high school season brought a crushing hamstring injury, abruptly halts my track career. That moment forced me face emotions, sparking pivotal turn toward self-acceptance.
Embracing who I truly am: a turning point reflection
After injury, I wrestled with life spinning out control. One night, driven frustration, I stood before mirror and finally said words I'd been avoiding: "I am gay." It was liberating and such relief.
This admission marked beginning my journey toward embracing identity, living as openly gay young man. As I got ready enter college, this new self-acceptance let me step forward future with authenticity and confidence.
At Colorado State, track and field team was rock support and acceptance. The friendships I made and welcoming environment let me dive deeper exploring identity. This was when I met my first boyfriend, a fellow runner.
Building community and further self-discovery
The encouragement from teammates and being part supportive community was life-altering. One standout moment was during celebration when teammates praised me and boyfriend being authentic, open about relationship. That affirmation lifted me, reassured right path.
For those haven't come out, I encourage you take time reflect on your authentic self and dream life want live. Telling yourself "I am gay," while small, can be powerful move toward empowerment and self-discovery.
This step can lead finding community embrace you fully, much like hitting personal best long jump. The freedom and authenticity you'll feel are match.
As I move forward, now pursuing master at Boise State, I'm thankful experiences shaped me. I'm committed helping others their own journeys toward self-acceptance and happiness.
Embracing identity takes courage, but rewards go beyond measure. I hope my story inspires others take that first bold step toward their liberation and joy.
