Rutger published: Drag Race UK Season Seven: Nyongbella's Emotional Exit and Resilience

Another episode has come and gone on Drag Race UK season seven, and for fans, this latest elimination has been particularly difficult to swallow. The fourth episode, titled "Sweety Darlings!", saw the departure of Nyongbella, a queen with Cameroonian roots who has been making her mark in London.

The task for the remaining ten queens was an acting challenge inspired by Jilly Cooper's bonkbuster novels. The runway theme was an "Absolutely Fabulous" tribute, with none other than Bubbles actress Jane Horrocks as a guest judge. Queens strutted their stuff in "Ab Fab: A Night of a Thousand Sweetie Darlings" inspired outfits.

Nyongbella's Journey on the Show

Nyongbella shone on the runway with her charming, Saffy-inspired schoolgirl ensemble. However, despite her efforts, she found herself in the bottom two alongside fellow contestant Sillexa Diction. The lip-sync battle to Jessie Ware’s "Pearls" was her last stand, as her shoes gave out, sealing her fate in the competition.

"I kind of knew it was the end for me," Nyongbella admitted in a post-elimination interview. "I’d been in the bottom three times, and unless I blew everyone away, it was likely over."

Fan and Judge Reactions

The judges, including RuPaul, Alan Carr, Michelle Visage, and guest Jane Horrocks, had consistently critiqued Nyongbella's performances, feeling she lacked the standout quality of some of her competitors. This feedback, coupled with her limited screen time during the lip-sync, left Nyongbella feeling overshadowed.

Yet, contrary to the judges' assessments, fans of the show have rallied around her. "The fan response has been incredible," Nyongbella shared. "They’ve called me a star in the making, and it's heartening to know people see something special in me."

A Personal Journey

Despite the criticism, Nyongbella is using her newfound platform for a profoundly personal purpose: raising funds for her transition. Encouraged by fellow trans queen Inga Rock, she started a GoFundMe campaign to support her journey. "I’m not someone who likes asking for help," she noted, "but Inga encouraged me, and the response has been overwhelming."

Within 24 hours of launching the fundraiser, Nyongbella had already raised significant funds, bringing her dream closer to reality. "Drag isn't the most stable profession," she explained, "but the generosity of the community has given me hope."

Looking to the Future

As for a possible return to the Drag Race stage, Nyongbella remains open but with a caveat: "Only after I’ve reached my transition goals," she declared. "Give me those Bosco titties!"

Nyongbella’s journey on Drag Race UK may have ended for now, but her story is far from over. With her determination and the support of her fans, she is poised to continue shining bright, both on and off the stage.

Follow Nyongbella and her journey on her social media channels and support her transition if you can. Drag Race UK continues to air on Thursdays at 8pm BST in the UK and is available internationally on WOW Presents Plus.
