Rutger published: Democratic Representative Confronts Kari Lake Over Election Lies, Faces Baseless Rumor

Things got pretty heated at a recent House Committee on Foreign Affairs hearing when Kari Lake, a senior advisor at USAGM, faced off against Democratic Rep. Greg Stanton from Arizona. Congressional tension boils over

The main topic on hand was supposed on be about Voice Of America (VOA). This state-funded radio network aims at spreading American values worldwide. Recent layoffs there raised questions about how committed those in charge are. Lake went at USAGM and VOA, accusing them all kinds corruption, yet her points were as solid as mist.

Rep. Stanton wasn't having any it, calling out Lake's track record with conspiracy theories. As someone who knew Lake from her days as a local news reporter, Stanton minced no words: "Let's get something straight: Americans can't trust a word you say. You lost when you ran governor in Arizona in 2022. You didn't concede. Instead, you dragged our state with lies, refusing accept your loss or your divisive politics."

Trying shift focus, Lake tossed another accusation at USAGM and made a shocking comment: "They can put any lie out there, I know you've dealt with that. Remember those stories about you having a gay lover?" Stanton, who has a family life and hasn't mentioned anything publicly about being LGBTQ+, was clearly blindsided by this.

The danger unfounded rumors

Local journalists in Arizona were quick dispute Lake's claims, saying there'd been no rumors about Stanton before Lake opened her mouth. The Phoenix New Times pointed out that Lake seemed concoct these "stories" out thin air, taking a jab with a homophobic twist. AZ Central wasn't amused either, noting Lake's insinuation about Stanton during a public hearing reached audiences nationwide without her ever saying anything directly.

Even Rep. Darrell Issaa from Ohio tried clear things up, pressing Lake about her false rumor. But Lake dodged, saying, "That's what he says," showing her unwillingness disown her own story.

Stanton's unshakable response

With some humor and resilience, Stanton took it social media, posting that false "gay lover" rumor story with a cheeky "Happy Pride Month!" Stanton's nod toward LGBTQ+ community weren't just timely; it was defiant against Lake's nonsense.

For those keeping track, Stanton's long been advocate LGBTQ+ rights, with strong ratings from Human Rights Campaign's Congressional Scorecard backing him up. These ratings emphasize his ongoing commitment equality.

What went down at hearing shows what public figures have deal with when personal attacks come out nowhere. It also pushes us remember stand up against misinformation and bias, especially when they twist sexual orientation political weapon.
