The incident went down at Dennis M. Lynch Arena in Pawtucket, where 56-year-old Robert Dorgan shot his son and ex-wife before taking his own life, all during a hockey game. Reports say Dorgan, who also went by Roberta, had undergone gender-affirming surgery and was dealing with family conflicts.

In his segment, Jones suggested that transgender individuals shouldn't be allowed gun ownership. "If you just wanna wear a dress, that's fine," he said, trying make a point about different ways gender identity surfaces. He added, "If you identify differently but know deep down you're not, and you just wanna be called 'he' or 'she', that's one thing." But he argued, "If you honestly believe psychologically that you are another gender, you shouldn't have a gun."

Jones took it further, suggesting a gender dysphoria diagnosis should bar someone from owning a firearm. "We all know something diagnosed as gender dysphoria can be an issue," he explained. "When we fill out that federal gun form about mental health... you should have check that box."

The bigger picture: Transgender rights and gun laws

Jones' statements have shone a light on a broader discussion about transgender people's rights when considering mental health and gun ownership. It's important remember that, per info from Violence Prevention Project, a whopping 98% shooters in mass shootings are cisgender men, not transgender people.
