DC Celebrates Black Pride with "TS Madison Day" Honoring Trailblazing Activist

This significant recognition honors TS Madison, a trailblazing trans activist and podcast host, and highlights her remarkable impact on her community. The designation also marks a vibrant start off Black Pride in our nation's capital.

TS Madison has become a beacon in advocating tirelessly and unapologetically supporting marginalized communities, especially Black trans women. Her relentless dedication, which includes launching a reentry home specifically designed supporting Black trans women who have been incarcerated, shines as a beacon within our community.

In Mayor Bowser's announcement, she calls TS Madison "fearlessly herself," recognizing her as a cultural icon who audibly voices support people who experience adversity. She's not just surviving but thriving amidst stigma, turning silence and shamefulness courage and authenticity.

The proclamation goes on, calling Madison "an unwavering protector and visionary, someone who inspires every young trans person dreaming their truth will be acknowledged." Her work doesn't just tell stories; it ignites a fire in others, daring them too, and live unapologetically.

The news about "TS Madison Day" sparked excitement, and Madison learned about this honor while receiving a trans pioneer in media award. Captured in a heartfelt moment, she thanked Washington, D.C., saying, "Thank you... It's truly wonderful when you're recognized and loved in your lifetime."

Reflecting on her journey, Madison spoke candidly about hurdles she overcame. "It's surreal. I used be a sex worker, and this city was familiar territory," she shared, emphasizing her incredible growth and unyielding spirit.

In an interview afterward, Madison stressed unity's power in today's political climate: "We're going get through these times united. We've shown that together, we can overcome anything," she said with conviction.

Pioneering change and inspiring new generations

TS Madison keeps shattering glass ceilings. She's made history as a Black trans woman starring in and producing her own show, *The TS Madison Experience*. Her talent has been recognized with a Grammy certificate, celebrating her contribution Beyoncé's Grammy-winning album, *Renaissance*.

In April, Madison opened TS Madison Starter House in Atlanta, Georgia, teaming up with NAESM, Inc. and A New Way Of Life's SAFE Housing Network. Here, four women at a time receive psychological support, health care, and business education.

This southern initiative, a first, empowers residents dubbed "stakeholders" as critical players in Black queer and trans liberation.

Madison told *Gaye Magazine*, "This house meant be a springboard greatness. I was once homeless and in sex work, and so much goodness has stemmed from this home... It's not about where you start but where you end up."
