In 2016, a pivotal moment arrived when Kennedy invited Billy Bean, an openly gay former MLB player, to speak at a Red Sox front office town hall. Bean's account of his struggles as a closeted player during the 1990s moved many to tears, stirring emotions in Baggs. When Bean mentioned there were only a handful of openly gay executives in Major League Baseball, Baggs felt compelled to change that narrative. Courageously, he came out to Kennedy via email, receiving an immediate and supportive response.

He later shared his story publicly, receiving congratulations from across the Red Sox community, from ownership to season ticket holders.
