Michael Steele, who used be in charge at Republican National Committee, didn't hold back when talking about Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA). He's calling her out, saying she doesn't seem clear on how our government works and what her role in it really means. Even though she's leading a House subcommittee focused on government efficiency, her recent remarks make it seem like she forgot she's part and parcel with federal employees. p>
Greene's made waves by cheering on mass layoffs in federal positions, suggesting this would cut down on "waste, fraud, and abuse" and that folks paying taxes are out there doing "real jobs" and making "real income." The implication here? That federal employees aren't pulling their weight, which seems a bit ironic considering she's a congresswoman and, you guessed it, a federal employee herself. It's sparked quite a bit o' chatter, given her spot in Congress means she's on that federal payroll too. p>
And here's what really made some jaws drop. During a subcommittee meeting, she stated, "Federal employees do not deserve their jobs. Federal employees do not deserve their paychecks." The head-scratcher? She's a federal employee too, and it raises questions about whether she's fully clued in on what her government role entails. p>
Over on MSNBC, when Chris Jansing asked Michael Steele, "Isn't she a federal employee?" Steele couldn't agree more with a resounding "Yes, yes." He couldn't quite wrap his head around how someone with such a misunderstanding could be in charge where government efficiency matters. p>
Steele didn't stop there. He pressed Greene on how she'd explain her views in front o' her constituents. He challenged, "I want her at that town hall meeting telling people that federal employees—who help their families with social security and SNAP benefits—are unworthy and insignificant." p>
Steele wasn't just concerned about Greene's comments in isolation. He warned that this kind o' "wholesale onslaught against government" has long-term implications. "The country will have consequences from this mindset," he cautioned. It's a tall order trying t' fix it while people like Greene wield power and influence. p>
He also took a dig at Greene's subcommittee, which has ties t' what people cheekily call "the unofficial Department Of Government Efficiency (DOGE)." According t' Steele, DOGE seems more concerned with political grandstanding than getting actual results, leaving those directly affected high and dry. p>
Steele's criticisms are echoing with many who worry about today's political climate and what it means, especially f' those most vulnerable. p>
