Rutger published: Creator of 'The Last of Us' Open to Developing a Third Game, With Conditions

The future looks exciting and hopeful if you're a fan eagerly waiting on news about 'The Last Of Us.' Neil Druckmann, who's been steering this beloved series, has hinted that he might be up front on a third game, but only if it lives up—no, surpasses—the remarkable storytelling standards that made us fall in love with it in 2013.

Remember when 'The Last Of Us' first hit our consoles? It was nothing short than an emotional rollercoaster, grabbing our hearts with an unforgettable story, and its sequel, 'The Last Of Us Part II,' just cemented its place in gaming history. Now, with HBO's adaptation starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey taking off and set over four fantastic seasons, it seems fans just can't get enough.

Is a third game on its horizon?

Talks about a third installment took off after a 2024 documentary, 'Grounded II: Making The Last Of Us Part II,' where Druckmann teased about a concept that excites him as much as its predecessors. Could it be that there's a storyline brewing that's meant as a grand finale? We sure hope so!

On an episode from 'Sacred Symbols' podcast, Druckmann didn't hold back his excitement about potentially crafting 'The Last Of Us Part III.' However, he made it clear that any new story would have big shoes—or perhaps boots—to fill. "Every new chapter has got be top-notch. We don't just churn out games; we craft them with passion," Druckmann asserted.

Always aiming high

Druckmann speaks highly about keeping up those impeccable series standards. He talked about past projects with Universal on that Halloween haunted house and working alongside HBO's elite producers while adapting our beloved series, highlighting teamwork that was key in keeping quality front and center. "Whenever we delve back, it's got be with a story worthy enough," he said. "This universe and these characters mean a lot. If a golden opportunity knocks, I'd dive right in!"

What's in store ahead?

Meanwhile, we're all on our toes as HBO wraps up its second season, covering 'The Last Of Us Part II's first part. Ellie's quest and a suspense-filled finale are grabbing all our attentions. Then there's upcoming season three with Kaitlyn Dever stepping in as Abby, diving deep in her struggles amidst U.S.'s tale. With four seasons needed, according co-creator Craig Mazins, each promises more twists and turns.

Catch new episodes airing Sunday nights at 9 p.m. ET or Monday nights over in UK on Sky Atlantic and Now, streaming available on Max.

So, what do you think? Are we ready, or should I say, hungry, enough yet, about 'The Last Of Us Part III'? Jump down in comments, and let's keep it respectful while sharing a thought or two.
