In a delightful turn of events, the internet is abuzz with the captivating story of how Oscar-nominated actor Colman Domingo met his husband, Raul. Their heartwarming encounter is winning hearts everywhere, especially after their recent appearance on the Oscars red carpet.
Colman Domingo, star of Sing Sing, recounted the enchanting tale of meeting Raul Aktanov through Craigslist's "Missed Connections," a story that appears to have all the elements of a modern fairy tale. This story, originally shared on The Graham Norton Show a year ago, has resurfaced and gone viral, earning more than 75,000 likes on social media.
It all began in 2005 when Colman found himself in a Walgreens in Berkeley, California, looking for a face mask. As he browsed, he noticed someone strikingly beautiful, with long hair and a lip piercing, exiting the store. Their eyes met, and Colman felt an undeniable connection.
Despite the mutual glance, the moment seemed fleeting as the unknown man walked away, involved in a conversation with an irate woman. Nonetheless, he kept looking back, leaving Colman intrigued and hopeful.
"I waved at him," Colman recalled, "but he just kept going. I was so dumbfounded that I ended up wandering into a Blockbuster across the street, unsure of what to do next."
Determined not to let the moment slip away, Colman decided to return to the same Walgreens at the same time the following Sunday. But fate had another plan. As he perused Craigslist's "Missed Connections," contemplating posting an ad himself, he stumbled upon a message that took his breath away.
"As I'm reading through page two," he explained, "I saw, 'Saw you outside Walgreens, Berkeley.' He had posted an ad for me just two hours earlier. I was over the moon!"
Without hesitation, Colman reached out, and the two arranged to meet three days later. Their connection was immediate and profound, leading to an unforgettable evening together.
During their time together, Colman found himself unable to sleep, overwhelmed by his feelings. "At 4 am, I turned to him and said, 'I think I love you and you're about to change my life.'" Their relationship flourished from that moment, and they have been inseparable ever since.
The couple tied the knot in 2014, solidifying their commitment to each other in a ceremony that celebrated their unique love story.
Their story has resonated widely, with many taking to social media to express their admiration and belief in love at first sight. Comments such as "This makes me believe in love at first sight" and "This is proof that what's meant for you will find you" capture the sentiment of those moved by Colman and Raul's story.
In addition to his touching personal story, Colman Domingo has made significant strides professionally. Last year, he became only the second openly gay man nominated for an Oscar, thanks to his powerful portrayal of a queer civil rights activist in the film Rustin. He follows in the footsteps of acting legend Ian McKellen, further paving the way for LGBTQ+ representation in Hollywood.
Colman's sincerity and openness about his journey and love story serve as an inspiration to many, reinforcing the importance of authenticity and representation in media.
