Celebrating Diversity: The Launch Of A Gay Athlete's Activewear Line
Andy Hall, once a college athlete and a proud advocate within LGBTQ+ circles, has set out on a mission. He's changing how we see athletic spaces with his new, inclusive activewear brand. As a sprinter from Kenyon College, Hall knew firsthand how much representation in sports can matter. His brainchild, &ANDY Activewear, boldly reflects his goal: empowering LGBTQ+ individuals through gym apparel that welcomes everyone.
Back at Kenyon College, Hall was a force in sprinting, nailing events like 100 and 200 meters. Those days fueled his love and passion, paving a path that would later lead him here. Coming out and navigating sports—a field not always welcoming—only made him more determined. Hall's experience showed him how important it was, and still remains, that everyone feels included.
The root idea behind &ANDY Activewear? Empowering LGBTQ+ folks and amplifying their presence in sports. "The aim here," Hall says, "is all about raising LGBTQ+ athletes and allies up," showcasing his all-in commitment.
The seedling idea that became &ANDY Activewear? It started as casual conversations with friends. Hall imagined clothing lined with subtle rainbows and snug fits, turning gym visits not just about fitness but also solidarity. Picture it: gym shorts becoming a silent nod between community members—it's like "swiping right with your shorts."
With constant support from his husband, who's no stranger himself in entrepreneurial ventures, Hall turned dreams tangible. Experience in design might have been scarce, but that didn't slow him down. "I'm building this plane while flying it," he quipped, displaying his grit and resilience.
Sports were always there in Hall's life, from track and field days straight through squash. Sports were more than hobbies; they were part and parcel with joy and identity. But when concussions came calling, Hall rethought his soccer days in college. "Soccer was a big slice," he recalls. "I had a choice: find a new sports bond or leave."
Being openly gay in sports? That came with its own set hurdles. Although he eventually came out, athletic spaces didn't always feel welcoming. "We didn't talk about it much," Hall notes. "Even post-coming out, college sports felt very straight." These times lit a fire—Hall sought something better, creating &ANDY Activewear as a safe haven in sport.
As Hall keeps pushing &ANDY Activewear, it's clear it's more than just threads. It's advocating visibility and support within sports. "Courage spreads," he says, hoping others find their voices. &ANDY Activewear stands beyond workout gear; it's about inclusion and backing everyone. Sure, there's a full wardrobe lineup, but there's also room and hope here—for LGBTQ+ athletes, influencers, and allies alike. By being who he truly was and offering this platform, Hall's shaping an inclusive sports future.
