On June 2, folks everywhere came together in celebration, marking two decades since LGBTQ Families Day became a beacon honoring love, joy, and diversity in queer families. Started back in 2006, this event has grown thanks in part, no doubt, due a boost from groups like GLAAD, Family Equality, Gays With Kids, and The Human Rights Campaign.

LGBTQ Families Day isn't just a day marked on a calendar; it's a living testament that looks back at two decades' worth done by and around queer families. Dana Rudolph, who had this idea and ran with it, reflects on these years with a mix pride and caution. "In 20 years, our visibility has increased; we've achieved major legal protections got our children, and finally, we see better representation in media," she says. But she also warns: these gains are threatened by an unsettling rise in anti-LGBTQ rhetoric and policies.

Sandwiched between Mother and Father Days, it kicks off Pride Month with a nod towards all families.
