Rutger published: CAMP Rehoboth Theatre Company Begins Exciting 2025 Season with Poetry and Theater

The CAMP Rehoboth Theatre Company is thrilled to announce the start of its highly anticipated 2025 season, which will feature a vibrant and engaging mix of performances. This season kicks off with the company’s inaugural poetry jam, followed by a delightful full-stage production of the acclaimed play “5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche.” Both events promise to offer exciting and thought-provoking entertainment for the LGBTQ+ community and allies.

Unleashing Creativity: The CAMP Rehoboth Poetry Jam

On Friday, February 21, at 5 p.m., the Elkins-Archibald Atrium will come alive with the voices of talented poets and performers as they gather for the first-ever CAMP Rehoboth Poetry Jam. This event is a celebration of creativity, community, and the power of words. Participants will include an impressive lineup of poets and performers, each bringing their unique voice and perspective to the stage.

The featured poets and performers for this inaugural event include the talented Debbie Bricker, Kari Ebert, Shelley Blue Grabel, Lavance John, Vanita Leatherwood, Syd Linders, Ellie Maher, Jane Miller, Gwen Osborne, Coco Silveira, Guillermo Silverira, Laura Unruh, Paul Unruh, and Sherri Wright. Each will share their work, offering insights and inspiration through poetry and performance art.

This poetry jam is an open invitation to explore the diverse stories and experiences within the LGBTQ+ community. Attendees can look forward to an evening filled with emotional resonance, thought-provoking themes, and heartfelt camaraderie. It’s an opportunity to enjoy the rich tapestry of voices that make up the community.

The Theatrical Delight: "5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche"

Following the poetry jam, the CAMP Rehoboth Theatre Company will present “5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche” from March 7 to 9. This production marks a return to the stage for a play that has previously delighted audiences with its humor and wit. This absurdist comedy, set in 1956, unfolds at the annual quiche breakfast of the Susan B. Anthony Society for the Sisters of Gertrude Stein. It is a play that combines historical context with comedic flair, offering both entertainment and a subtle critique of societal norms.

Directed by Teri Seaton, the play features a stellar returning cast, including Karen Laitman, Kelly Sheridan, Gwen Osborne, Darcy Vollero, and Shelley Kingsbury. Each of these talented actors brings depth and nuance to their roles, ensuring a performance that is both engaging and memorable.

“5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche” first made its debut at CAMP Rehoboth in the fall of 2022. Since then, it has been celebrated for its clever script and dynamic performances. The play was originally recognized at the 2012 NYC International Fringe Festival, where it won Best Overall Production. Audiences can expect a mix of hysterical laughs, playful sexual innuendos, and moments of delicious discovery.

This production is not just a comedy; it also serves as a reflection on identity, community, and the struggle against repression. Through humor and satire, the play invites audiences to confront and question the societal norms of the past and present. It’s a reminder of the progress made and the work that remains in the quest for equality and acceptance.
