Rutger published: Bobby Berk Reveals Financial Struggles During Queer Eye Tenure

Bobby Berk: Financial insights from his journey on Queer Eye

If you love Queer Eye, you probably know Bobby Berk, who's been a standout not just as a designer but as a person with a story. Recently, Bobby opened up about his financial ups and downs during his time on this beloved show. After stepping away from Queer Eye in 2023, he shared that his time on screen wasn't all glitz and glam—it actually came with some financial bumps along his path.

The Fab Five's evolution and Bobby Berk's exit

With season nine kicking off this year, Queer Eye started a fresh chapter without Bobby. He decided it was time, bowing out during season eight. Rumors swirled about his departure—some even whispered he got "the boot." But truth be told, a new face, Jeremiah Brent, was brought in, promising fans that spirit and fun would carry on seamlessly.

Bobby's candid chat on financial hurdles

On June 25th, Bobby took a seat with Vivian Tu on her Networth & Chill podcast and didn't hold back about his reality TV money tales.

He revealed, “For those first couple seasons, I was actually in a financial hole. The pay just didn't cut it. I was missing out on income because I couldn't focus on my own business.” By seasons three and four, he managed just about breaking even, but it was always a far cry from what actors on a scripted show would make. Our paychecks were pretty humble."

Decoding reality TV payments

Bobby painted a picture about reality TV paychecks: "You're paid per episode, like a flight attendant getting paid only when they're in-flight. No cameras? No cash." He shared, “When Queer Eye called, I'd be on set weeks before filming, but my paycheck didn't start until we rolled tape.”

His workload was intense, six or seven days a week. Interestingly, his co-stars didn't fully grasp how much hustle he had on his plate since their schedules were a bit lighter.

The upside: Queer Eye's exposure and opportunities

Despite tighter purse strings, Bobby saw Queer Eye as a golden ticket. It opened doors, leading him and his fellow castmates towards juicy brand deals. "Some folks gave us flak over endorsing products," Bobby shared, "but those gigs were essential considering how little we earned from just appearing on camera."

Bobby Berk: From entrepreneurial roots and beyond

Bobby was no rookie when Queer Eye came calling in 2018. His design biz was already in gear. Since then, he's kept that momentum, striking partnerships and expanding his creative empire. He even owns a chic resort in Palm Desert, California, and there's chatter about a second one popping up soon.

Now, as Bobby turns a new leaf post-Queer Eye, his impact in and out design circles remains deep. His creativity keeps guiding others, making waves and inspiring along his continuing journey.
