Rutger published: Big Brother's Gani Discusses Bisexuality and Complex Marriage Situation

In a recent episode of Big Brother, housemate Gani provided some deep insights into his personal life, discussing both his sexual orientation and his current relationship status. Gani, a 39-year-old pizza shop manager, has quickly become a fan favorite, known for his candid nature and love for pop star Dua Lipa.

During a heartfelt conversation with fellow housemate Jenny, a 20-year-old makeup artist from Derry, Gani opened up about his journey of self-discovery. Moving from India to the UK marked a significant turning point in his life, allowing him to embrace his true self.

"This is going to be very interesting and very shocking for you. 2022 was the turning point in my life," he shared with Jenny, setting the stage for a personal revelation. "I was so open-minded [sexually] even though I was from a religious background. I was always like, 'why not try everything'. From 2022 to 2024, I was literally enjoying and exploring bisexuality," Gani explained, highlighting his journey of sexual exploration and acceptance.

However, the end of 2023 brought new challenges. Gani's father began to question his unmarried status, exerting familial pressure that culminated in a life-changing decision. "Then my dad asked me [to get married] and I couldn't say no. That is how I got married in January 2024 with my cousin," he revealed, surprising both Jenny and viewers.

As Gani recounted his story, it became clear that the marriage was not a decision he made freely. "And I said to my mother, 'It is not you, it is your husband. It is my dad, your husband – he forced me. Otherwise, I wouldn't have married,'" Gani shared, expressing the coercion he felt and the cultural expectations he struggled with.

When Jenny asked if Gani was happy in his marriage, Gani admitted, "I am still married, yeah. I have a baby boy – 10 months old." This revelation sparked further questions about whether Gani could seek a divorce, considering his religious background.

Gani's response was complex yet heartfelt. "The thing is Jenny, I didn't marry to get divorced actually. I love my wife, I love my son," he said, clarifying his commitment to his family despite the circumstances under which he married. "From where I'm standing, I wanted to repair things and I wanted to be with my wife and son," he continued, expressing his desire to make his marriage work.

Gani's story is one of navigating personal freedom, familial duty, and love. "This is me – either take it or leave it. I choose to live like this because this is my second life and I want to live in a f***ing iconic way," he boldly concluded, asserting his resolve to live authentically.

Gani initially came out as bisexual during the live launch of Big Brother on Sunday, September 28. However, it was not until this recent intimate conversation that he disclosed the full extent of his marital situation.

This season of Big Brother has been notable for its diverse cast of LGBTQ+ contestants. Among them is zumba instructor Sam, who has been open about their gender identity, and Zelah, who is gradually revealing his experience as a trans man to his housemates. Additionally, Nancy has shared her journey as a pansexual woman, contributing to the rich tapestry of personal stories within the Big Brother house.

As Big Brother continues to air on ITV2 and ITVX, Sundays through Fridays at 9 PM BST, viewers are invited to join the conversation and explore the diverse narratives that unfold. Gani's story, like many others, invites reflection on the complexities of identity, love, and societal expectations.
