Beach Volleyball Star Finds Love and New Life Off the Court

Kyle Friend's incredible journey: From volleyball starlet on sand courts and new adventures Kyle Friend, once a celebrated name in professional beach volleyball, has wrapped up his remarkable eight-year career, filled with wins and a lot more than just trophies. While he was well-known on and off-court, perhaps his biggest win was meeting Tim Brewster, his former playing partner and now much more. In a touching Instagram post, Kyle shared his retirement news, looking back fondly and with gratitude at his path so far. "I'm officially hanging up my beach volleyball hat," he wrote. "Never got a proper goodbye before now. What a ride it's been. Volleyball took me around this great big globe, filled my life with joy, and led me straight towards love, my guy, @timbrewster."

Reflecting on victories and personal growth During his career, Kyle Friend notched up some impressive stats, including five first-place finishes. But what seems most important was how volleyball shaped his life. "Deep down, I'm just a kid from Florida who wanted so badly just once, just once, not just compete but show I belonged with those guys from California," he recalled. "I aimed high in this sport and it turned out, it shaped me in ways I never expected." Now, stepping away from professional play isn't so much a goodbye but a new beginning. "The last seven years jet-setting wouldn't have meant as much without my family and friends by my side," he said. "Volleyball isn't outta my life, but chasing pro titles definitely took its bow. And I'm happy where it leaves me. Now, onto a new adventure...one without those grueling warm-ups."

A love story that transcends volleyball Kyle and Tim took their partnership from court rivals and teammates, out in public last year, blossoming beyond competition. Tim has plenty good things about Kyle's legacy. "Kyle's impact on beach volleyball was immense, and that kid could do it all: block, defend, serve—you name it," Tim stated. More than skills, Kyle was known by all. "He was everyone‘s buddy, loved and respected all over," Tim said. "He made a mark, blazing trails with confidence that inspired me greatly." Their relationship wasn't just about success in play; it was deeply personal. Tim sees Kyle as a beacon. "Having someone who was out, proud, and still thriving at volleyball changed my perspective," Tim shared. "Being around Kyle helped me deal with my own battles."

New paths and possibilities Kyle's choice wasn't just about stepping back but leaping forward—with plans as a lead commentator and stepping further toward coaching. This lets him keep contributing, just from a different side. Their story shines a light on authenticity's strength and being unapologetically proud, especially in sports.
