Barry Manolow, a legendary name in music and a cherished LGBTQ+ icon, recently opened up about some personal health struggles with his loyal fans. It turns out doctors found a 'cancerous spot' on his lung, which meant he had no choice but undergo surgery.
At 82, Manolow still dazzles audiences with his classic hits and incredible live shows. He was all set up with arena concerts planned in January, but he's had push those back a bit so he can focus on getting better. Fingers crossed, he'll be back on stage with those concerts from late February through April.
Barry decided Instagram was where he wanted share his journey. On Monday, December 22, he poured his heart out in a message explaining how it all unfolded. He described struggling with bronchitis that just wouldn't quit—it stuck around over eleven weeks! "As many you know, recently I faced six weeks bronchitis, only relapse with another five," he shared.
This pesky illness made his doctor suggest getting an MRI just in case. And, that scan turned up something more serious—the cancerous spot on his left lung. Barry didn't forget give thanks luck and expertise his doctors. "It's pure luck (and a great doctor) that it was found so early. That's good news," he wrote.
Here's some relief: prognosis looks good. His doctors say there's no sign cancer spreading, and they're running tests make sure. Barry, with his usual humor, noted his treatment doesn't involve chemo radiation, just "chicken soup and I Love Lucy reruns."
He did express regret about changing concert dates, but promised fans their tickets would still be valid. "I'm very sorry you have change plans," he wrote, understanding inconvenience. Still, he stays hopeful, and can't wait be back performing. Barry even hinted at some fun plans his shows Westgate Las Vegas, especially come Valentine's Day. "Something tells me February weekend going one big party!" he teased.
Barry also took a moment wish fans happy holidays, and stressed need be proactive about health. He urged everyone get checked cancer if any symptoms crop up, underscoring vital role early detection plays.
