A private autopsy has confirmed that Renee Good, an unarmed woman who was fatally shot by ICE officer Jonathan Ross in Minneapolis two weeks ago, died from a gunshot wound to the head. The findings were released by lawyers representing the Good family on Wednesday evening, adding further clarity to the circumstances surrounding her tragic death.
The autopsy revealed that Good was struck by a total of four bullets. The fatal shot entered near her left temple and exited through the right side of her head, suggesting that Ross shot from the left side of her vehicle at close range. Additional bullets struck Good's left forearm and right breast, while a fourth bullet grazed her body in an unspecified area.
The lawyers have withheld the full autopsy report but stated they are continuing to gather evidence as part of a civil investigation. "We believe the evidence we are gathering will suffice to prove our case," stated Antonio M. Romanucci, the lead attorney representing Good's family. "The video footage from January 7, 2026, is compelling when evaluated under the standards of reasonable policing and the totality of circumstances."
This private autopsy report precedes the official findings from the Hennepin County medical examiner’s office. Meanwhile, the FBI has taken charge of the investigation, as state officials claim they have been excluded from participating. The incident has already led to the resignation of six federal prosecutors, who have expressed their dissent over the handling of the case.
Renee Good leaves behind her wife, Becca Good, and their three children. The incident has shaken the community and drawn significant media attention. Initial reports from first responders and 911 transcripts provide a harrowing account of the moments following the shooting.
According to 911 transcripts, the first call about the shooting was made at 9:38 a.m., merely a minute after the shots were fired. A caller reported, "There are a bunch of ICE agents on 33rd and Portland, they just shot a lady point-blank in her car." Another distressed caller confirmed, "She’s dead. They shot her."
Paramedics arrived at the scene four minutes later, where they found Good unresponsive in the driver’s seat with visible blood on her face and body. Reports noted two gunshot wounds on the right side of her chest, another on her left forearm, and a severe head wound. Despite immediate medical interventions, including CPR and a tourniquet, Renee Good was pronounced dead at the hospital at approximately 10:30 a.m.
Tricia McLaughlin, a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security, has denied any culpability for the ICE officer involved, stating, "If you impede law enforcement operations, ignore commands, and use lethal force against a federal officer, there are dangerous consequences." However, this statement does little to quell the outcry from the community and advocates for justice.
The Good family and their legal team remain steadfast in their pursuit of accountability and justice. "Our investigation continues, and we are committed to ensuring that the truth comes to light," said Romanucci. The broader community and LGBTQ+ advocates have rallied in support of the Good family, demanding transparency and justice in this case.
As the investigation progresses, more details are expected to emerge, further illuminating the circumstances that led to Renee Good's untimely death. The case has become a focal point for discussions about law enforcement practices and accountability, especially concerning marginalized communities.
In the wake of this tragedy, Renee Good is remembered not just as a victim but as a beloved partner and parent, whose loss has deeply affected her family and community. Her story resonates as a poignant reminder of the urgent need for systemic change and justice for all victims of violence.
