Andrew Scott's Dramatic SAG Awards Experience: A Night to Remember

Andrew Scott, renowned for his captivating performances, had a night to remember during his first experience at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards. The Irish actor, celebrated for his role as the "hot priest" in Phoebe Waller-Bridge's acclaimed series Fleabag, found himself at the center of an unexpected medical drama at the 2020 SAG Awards, leaving an indelible mark on his memory.

Scott, who was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series that year, attended the ceremony with high hopes. Although the award eventually went to Tony Shalhoub for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, it was not the only thing Scott lost that evening. In a twist of fate, he found himself grappling with a painful medical emergency.

In a recent interview on the red carpet at this year's SAG Awards in Los Angeles, Scott recounted his harrowing experience. He revealed to Variety that during the 2020 ceremony, he had to contend with the sudden passing of a kidney stone, an ordeal he described as "terrifying" and "grisly." Despite the intense pain, Scott managed to keep this incident under wraps until now, choosing to share it publicly for the first time.

Scott vividly described the moment, recalling that he was standing beside his Fleabag co-star Phoebe Waller-Bridge as Laura Dern accepted her award for Best Supporting Actress for Marriage Story. "I don't know if anyone has ever experienced having a kidney stone before, but the pain is so immediate," Scott shared. As Dern delivered her speech, Scott found himself crawling away from his seat, in desperate need of relief.

He laughed as he recounted the absurdity of the situation, explaining how he ended up backstage, frantically removing his tuxedo and writhing in agony. Fortunately, his friend and colleague Waller-Bridge was there to support him, running back and forth to provide him with water and assistance.

Emergency medical technicians soon arrived on the scene, assessing Scott's condition and eventually whisking him away in an ambulance. While Scott refrained from divulging the fate of the kidney stone, he humorously alluded to its "grisly" nature.

Despite the traumatic experience, Scott returned to the SAG Awards this year with enthusiasm. He was nominated once again, this time in the category of Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series for his role as Tom Ripley in the Netflix adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's novel The Talented Mr. Ripley. However, Scott faced tough competition and ultimately lost to Colin Farrell for his role in HBO's The Penguin.

Andrew Scott remains optimistic about his future in the industry. He is currently receiving accolades for his performance in Blue Moon, a musical drama biopic about the life of closeted songwriter Lorenz Hart. Scott stars as Richard Rodgers, Hart’s musical collaborator, alongside Ethan Hawke, who portrays Hart. The film recently premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival, where Scott's performance earned him the prestigious Silver Bear award for Best Supporting Performance.

As Scott continues to captivate audiences with his talent and charisma, his unforgettable SAG Awards experience serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of life. What began as an evening of celebration turned into an unexpected adventure, showcasing not only Scott's acting prowess but also his resilience in the face of adversity.

As fans and followers of Andrew Scott's career, we eagerly anticipate his future projects and hope to see him grace the stage at many more awards ceremonies.
