Amy Carter, the daughter of the late former President Jimmy Carter, made a poignant statement at her father's lying-in-state ceremony at the U.S. Capitol by wearing a pin featuring the rainbow flag, a symbol of LGBTQ Pride. The ceremony, held on a solemn Tuesday, was attended by various dignitaries and members of the political elite, paying their respects to the 39th President of the United States.

Vice President Kamala Harris, House Speaker Mike Johnson, and Senate Majority Leader John Thune were among the notable figures who delivered heartfelt remarks at the ceremony. They each laid wreaths in honor of President Carter, celebrating his life and legacy. The event was further attended by distinguished guests including U.S. Supreme Court justices, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, numerous members of the Carter family, and members of President Biden's Cabinet, as well as individuals who served during Carter's administration.

President Joe Biden is scheduled to deliver the eulogy for Carter during the official funeral service on Thursday at the Washington National Cathedral. The service will also see attendance from notable figures including President-elect Donald Trump and former Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama, marking a gathering that transcends political lines in honor of a leader who sought unity and equality.

Jimmy Carter, who passed away on December 29 at the age of 100, was a pioneer in advocating for LGBTQ rights during a time when the community's fight for recognition and equality was still nascent. During his 1976 campaign for the presidency, Carter made a groundbreaking commitment to support a gay civil rights bill, expressing his belief that it was unjust to target homosexual individuals for discrimination or special harassment. "I don’t think it’s right to single out homosexuals for abuse or special harassment," Carter declared, setting a precedent for future administrations.
