Rutger published: Amber Glenn Triumphs Again: A Year Before the Olympics, She Secures Another Gold at the U.S. Championships

Amber Glenn has once again demonstrated her incredible talent and dedication, securing her second consecutive gold medal at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships. This victory not only solidifies her position as a top contender for Team USA but also sets the stage for her potential participation in the upcoming Winter Olympics.

Historically, very few women have achieved back-to-back gold medals in U.S. figure skating over the last two decades. The last woman to do so was Alysa Liu, who Glenn narrowly edged out to claim this year's title. Liu had previously won titles in 2019 and 2020 before retiring after competing in the 2022 Winter Olympics. Her return to earn a silver medal is commendable, showcasing her resilience and skill.

Team USA Celebrates Glenn's Success

The victory was celebrated by Team USA with an enthusiastic message: "A win worth a thousand words." Such recognition underscores the significance of Glenn's accomplishments in the realm of U.S. figure skating.

Amber Glenn's Journey

Amber Glenn publicly came out as bisexual in 2019, a bold move in the traditionally conservative world of figure skating. She shared her struggles with acceptance, both within the sport and in her personal life, highlighting the challenges often faced by bisexual and pansexual women. "The fear of not being accepted is a huge struggle for me," she told the Dallas Voice. She expressed how often bisexual/pansexual women are perceived as "just a phase" or "indecisive." Despite these challenges, Glenn remained true to herself and refused to hide her identity.

Since her junior national championship win in 2014, Glenn has worked tirelessly to add two senior national titles to her impressive resume. Her journey is marked not only by her achievements but also by the personal battles she has overcome.

An Inspirational Figure

Glenn's rise to prominence in U.S. figure skating is a story of inspiration and resilience. Like many female skaters, Glenn has faced mental health challenges, which were exacerbated by the intense scrutiny of female athletes' bodies. She candidly shared her struggles with INTO, revealing that she sought professional help, therapy, and medication to manage her mental health.

Her determination to overcome these challenges is evident in her words: "I got professional help," she stated. "I had help from my family and friends. I went to therapy. I got on certain medications. I did what was needed to survive and to fight that battle within my own mind. I took time away from the sport and came back when I was able to handle it in a healthy way. I had my slip-ups and struggles, but I never let it get back to that point again."

Looking Forward

As Glenn continues to compete this season, she has already secured a Grand Prix gold medal, further proving her prowess on the ice. With the Winter Olympics just around the corner, she undoubtedly has her sights set on representing Team USA on the world stage. Although she narrowly missed making the Olympic team in 2022, her current form and determination suggest that this time could be different.

Fans and supporters across the nation will be cheering for Glenn as she prepares for the next big challenge in her career. Her story is not just about athletic excellence but also about personal growth and the courage to embrace one's true identity.
