Rutger published: Amber Glenn Shines with Gold at the U.S. Championships Ahead of Winter Olympics

Amber Glenn has reached an extraordinary milestone in her figure skating career, clinching her second consecutive gold medal at the U.S. Championships. This victory not only solidifies her status as a top contender but also places her in an excellent position for the upcoming Winter Olympics, where she aims to represent Team USA with pride and distinction.

In an impressive display of skill and determination, Glenn joins the ranks of a select few female skaters who have managed to win back-to-back golds at the U.S. Championships in the past two decades. The last to achieve this feat was the talented Alysa Liu, whom Glenn narrowly surpassed in this year's competition. Liu, who was a two-time champion in 2019 and 2020, made a remarkable return to the podium with a silver medal after stepping away from competitive skating following the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Team USA celebrated Amber's triumph with great enthusiasm, lauding her achievement as "a win worth a thousand words" and rallying support for her journey towards the coveted Olympic stage.

Glenn's journey to the pinnacle of her sport has been both inspiring and transformative. She bravely came out as bisexual in 2019, sharing her story with the world and confronting the fears and misconceptions often faced by bisexual and pansexual individuals. In an interview with the Dallas Voice, Glenn expressed, "The fear of not being accepted is a huge struggle for me. Being perceived as 'just a phase' or 'indecisive' is a common thing for bisexual/pansexual women. I don’t want to shove my sexuality in people’s faces, but I also don’t want to hide who I am."

At the time of her coming out, Glenn's greatest accomplishment was a junior national title in 2014. Since then, she has added two senior national championships to her growing list of accolades, proving her resilience and passion for the sport.

Mental Health and Overcoming Challenges

Glenn's path has not been without challenges. Like many female athletes, she has grappled with mental health issues exacerbated by the intense scrutiny placed on the bodies of female skaters. In a candid conversation with INTO, she disclosed, "I got professional help. I had help from my family and friends. I went to therapy. I got on certain medications. I did what was needed to survive and to fight that battle within my own mind. I took time away from the sport and came back when I was able to handle it in a healthy way. I had my slip-ups, I had my struggles, but it never got back to that point again."

Glenn's commitment to her mental well-being, alongside her formidable talent, has been instrumental in her continued success on the ice. This season, she has already captured a Grand Prix gold medal, and with several competitions still on the horizon, she remains focused and determined.

Looking Ahead to the Olympics

With the Winter Olympics fast approaching, Amber Glenn is undoubtedly keeping her eyes on the prize. The disappointment of narrowly missing out on a spot in the 2022 Winter Olympics only fuels her desire to shine brighter than ever on the global stage. Her journey is a testament to perseverance, authenticity, and the unwavering support of the LGBTQ+ community and her fans worldwide.

As we eagerly anticipate Glenn's performances in upcoming events, we celebrate her as not only a remarkable athlete but also as a beacon of hope and inspiration. Her story is a reminder that with courage and dedication, obstacles can be overcome, and dreams realized.
