Rutger published: Amandla Stenberg Joins Cast of Children of Blood and Bone Film Adaptation

Amandla Stenberg, known for their roles in "Bodies Bodies Bodies" and Disney+'s "The Acolyte", is set to star in the highly anticipated film adaptation of "Children of Blood and Bone", Tomi Adeyemi's debut young adult novel. This fantasy epic, which forms part of the Legacy of Orïsha trilogy, has captivated readers worldwide with its rich storytelling and powerful themes.

The adaptation boasts an impressive lineup of actors, including Cynthia Erivo of "Wicked" fame, Oscar-winning actress Viola Davis, and other prominent stars. Stenberg, a queer and non-binary actor, will play Princess Amari in the film. They will join a diverse and talented cast that promises to bring Adeyemi's vibrant world to life on screen.

"Children of Blood and Bone" was released in 2018 and quickly became a bestseller, drawing comparisons to beloved series such as "Harry Potter" and "The Hunger Games". The story is set in the mythical African kingdom of Ilorin, where magic has been eradicated by the tyrannical King Saran, played by Chiwetel Ejiofor. The protagonist, Zélie Adebola, portrayed by Thuso Mbedu, is a fierce and determined young woman who seeks to restore magic to her people.

In her quest, Zélie is joined by her brother Tzain, played by Tosin Cole, and the king's children, Princess Amari and Prince Inan, played by Damson Idris. Together, they form a formidable group determined to challenge King Saran's oppressive regime and bring peace and magic back to their world.

Legacy of Orïsha Trilogy
"Children of Blood and Bone" is the first installment in Adeyemi's Legacy of Orïsha trilogy. The books have garnered critical acclaim and a devoted fanbase, with "Children of Blood and Bone" achieving an impressive 4.1-star average on GoodReads from nearly a quarter of a million ratings. The series is praised not only for its engaging narrative but also for its profound allegorical exploration of the modern Black experience.

The film adaptation will be directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, known for her work on "The Woman King". Prince-Bythewood's involvement adds to the film's promising potential, as she brings her expertise in crafting powerful and nuanced stories to the project.

Viola Davis, a dream casting choice for Adeyemi, will portray Mama Agba in the film. Cynthia Erivo, who has achieved EGOT status, will take on the role of Admiral Kaea. Additionally, Idris Elba, another actor whom Adeyemi had hoped to include, will appear as Lekan. Lashana Lynch, a BAFTA winner, will round out the cast as Jumoke.

Scheduled for a January 2027 release through Paramount Pictures, the "Children of Blood and Bone" film adaptation is expected to be a significant cinematic event, bringing Adeyemi's vivid imagination to the big screen.
