Rutger published: Activist Delivers Impassioned Speech Advocating for Trans Rights in Texas

Kimiya Factory's heartfelt call: Stand with our transgender community

Right in Texas, at its bustling State Capitol, Kimiya Factory made waves with a fiery plea against a controversial anti-trans bathroom bill. As a fierce advocate fighting racial injustice, Factory urged everyone present—and beyond—to rally behind our transgender friends, especially with all these anti-LGBTQ+ laws popping up left and right.

Teaming up with Equality Texas, Factory passionately fought back against this legislation that aims at enforcing bathroom, changing room, and domestic violence center use strictly by biological sex. These bills would also erase gender-neutral options, which makes standing together more critical than ever.

Factory, who spearheads Black Freedom Factory, made a poignant call-out specifically targeting cisgender women, asking them not just as allies but as family: "My rights are being stripped from me, not by trans women in restrooms, but in those hostile House sessions at mahogany tables with white, cisgender lawmakers coolly making decisions."

She highlighted how transgender people have been essential in countless social justice battles. "Trans folks have led Black Lives Matter and immigration rallies," she reminded everyone. "It's time we use our advantages like they've done supporting us all these years."

Factory, deeply committed, vowed publicly: she'll honor trans women, celebrating their courage and authenticity.

During a press conference hosted with Equality Texas, titled Texas Women Are Stronger Together, Factory rallied support from cisgender women, encouraging them alongside their transgender peers, against oppressive moves by bills like HB 32 and SB 7.

Drawing connections with past injustices

Taking a firm stand, Black activists at this rally compared these proposed bathroom bans with dark times from Jim Crow's era.

Verniss McFarland III from Houston's Mahogany Project—a group supporting trans and non-binary folks—spoke from his heart: "Remember when bathrooms had ‘white' and ‘colored' signs?" he asked. "Now, they want similar segregation, just repackaged. Can we really claim progress if this cycle continues?"

McFarland laid it bare: "This isn't about safety or privacy; this labels transgender individuals and dictates their societal rank."

Legislation trends: Texas and beyond

Texas has seen a staggering flood in anti-trans bills since its 2025 legislative session kicked off. The Trans Legislation Tracker notes 134 such bills under review in Texas alone.

Nationally, it's concerning. Across 49 states, 965 anti-trans bills are being tracked, with Vermont as a lone exception, steering clear in 2025. Out there, 121 bills made it through, but 646 were thankfully shot down.

This onslaught against trans rights signals an urgent need—no, demand—for unity and action. Factory's speech serves as both an alarm and a rallying cry: let's unite against these harmful policies and protect everyone's dignity.
