The morning following the election was a surreal experience, as countless Americans, including myself, awoke to the startling headlines. The bold text on various news sites announced an unexpected political shift, leaving many of us in disbelief. My partner and I, clinging to our dog, found solace in the shelter of our bed, delaying the confrontation with a changed reality. Venturing outside into the bustling streets of New York, it was impossible to ignore the palpable sense of disappointment permeating the air. How had this happened once more? What would become of our nation over the next four years?
Amidst this uncertainty, my team and I, who had spent numerous weeks conceptualizing a unique touring mini golf experience that celebrated America's landmarks and landscapes, faced a pivotal decision point. Initially, we were confident about the election's outcome aligning with our hopes, but the results forced us to reconsider our path. Should we pause our project indefinitely, or proceed with renewed determination?
As a young, openly gay CEO leading an entertainment venture dedicated to crafting meaningful experiences across the United States, I found resolve. This country, with its vibrant spirit and rich diversity, both in its inhabitants and its geography, was not something we could afford to abandon. Behind every moment of despair, there lies a glimmer of hope for an America that respects, reflects, and represents all of us.
Creating a Shared Experience
With this conviction, we committed to making "Putt Across America" a reality—an endeavor that would honor the diverse places that define our nation, and the people who bring them to life. The red, white, and blue belong to everyone, and as we approach the nation's 250th anniversary, it is imperative that we lay the groundwork for the next 250 years.
The "easy summer nostalgia" atmosphere of Putt Across America is no accident; it required thoughtful effort to achieve. Reflecting on my childhood summers evokes a profound sense of tranquility, joy, and connection—moments of unbridled happiness shared with loved ones. While not everyone may have these fond memories, it's a joy that everyone deserves. At the heart of our project is the goal of providing a blissful summer experience that fosters lasting memories.
Gathering in Unity
Through Putt Across America, by Junto Entertainment, we aspire to evoke peace and togetherness. Participants can enjoy a round of mini golf this summer, looking across a course that spans from Boston to the Grand Canyon, with numerous other states represented in between. This visual journey serves as a reminder that this America belongs to us all. As players engage with the additional educational elements at each hole, they are prompted to recognize that the spirit of protest and the quest for a better country existed long before the founding of the United States.
No one can take this away from us. The promise of a brighter tomorrow is something we craft, nurture, and pass on to future generations.
It is our duty to continue this fight—not only through our votes or through public actions but also through shared, simple joys like a round of mini golf. Together, we can deepen our love for America and contribute to its future.
