Setting sail on a transatlantic voyage with Celebrity ASCENT h2>
Picture this: embarking on a transatlantic cruise where relaxation, adventure, and new friendships blend seamlessly. That's exactly what I'm doing this year aboard Celebrity ASCENT, a ship I hold dear. We'll set sail on October 31st from Civitavecchia, just outside Rome. The ASCENT feels like an old friend, having journeyed with it before from Barcelona. This trip isn't just about reaching destinations; it's about relishing every moment with around 65 fellow travelers, many who've become cherished friends over time.
Diving deep in Rome's timeless charm h2>
Before we hit open waters, I'm spending a couple days soaking in Rome's timeless allure. My first visit was in 1968, and Rome never fails with its vibrant culture and storied past. I'll be staying at Hotel Nord Nuova Roma, right by Rome's main train station, which makes exploring a breeze. On my list? The Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Coliseum, and Pantheon. But this year, I'm really looking forward seeing Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore. A moment there offers a chance reflection, especially on progress, no matter how small.
Exploring unique stops and savoring days at sea h2>
This 13-night cruise perfectly balances adventure and relaxation. With 10 days cruising at sea, we'll also make exciting stops at places like Sardinia's Cagliari, Gibraltar, and Bermuda. In Cagliari, I'm diving headfirst local culture. In Gibraltar, having met its famous monkeys before, I might hang back on board. Bermuda, though, never gets old with its stunning views.
The creative life aboard Celebrity ASCENT h2>
Life on board promises creativity mixed with leisure. Mornings start with coffee in my room, followed by a few hours dedicated writing. The sea's tranquility provides an ideal backdrop as I delve deeper my second book. My first memoir, "Born this Gay: My Life Activism, Politics, Travel, and Coming Out," allowed me share my story. Now, I'm venturing political commentary with a working title, "From Camelot Fascism, in 65 Short Years," drawing from firsthand experiences.
Socializing, fun, and friendships h2>
But it's not just about writing. The cruise offers plenty socializing and fun. The first night kicks off with a sail-away party, hosted by my good friends Dustin and Scott from My Lux Cruise. It's a great chance catch up with friends and meet new faces, making our journey enjoyable and memorable.
Blog updates and future journeys h2>
I'll be blogging along our trip, sharing stories and reflections with everyone. Thanks friends and colleagues, I can easily publish updates, offering a peek our experiences others might want join future voyages. Speaking which, our upcoming adventure sets sail on October 23, 2026, taking us from Barcelona Miami in 16 days aboard Celebrity XCEL. It promises yet another chance create unforgettable memories.
As I get ready this journey, I'm filled with excitement new experiences and comfort familiar friendships. A transatlantic cruise offers a unique blend relaxation, exploration, and connection, perfect rejuvenating mind and soul.
