We wanted to create something truly special for each of our venues.” They added, “While we always incorporate Pride into our events, WorldPride is on another level, and we are committed to elevating the experience.”
Previously, the 9:30 Club has hosted various events and parties during Pride celebrations, including the renowned Mixtape party. However, this year, the scale of the shows is notably more ambitious, aligning with the global spirit of WorldPride.
The festivities commence on May 31, with an exciting performance by Snow Wife at The Atlantis. On Friday night, June 6, the celebrated party MIXTAPE returns for WorldPride Weekend, uniting the LGBTQ community for an evening of music and dance. As always, DJs Matt Bailer and Shea Van Horn will spin an eclectic mix of house, indie dance, nu-disco, electropop, and nostalgic hits.
Saturday, June 7, brings a special performance by local favorite and Pride icon Betty Who, who will deliver a late-night set at the 9:30 Club. Betty Who expressed her excitement, stating, “It's a crucial time to be on the road, creating spaces for joy. D.C. holds a particular energy, and my history with the 9:30 Club is cherished. Returning to this beloved venue to create new memories is something I'm really looking forward to.”
Jen Hass added, “Having Betty Who at the 9:30 Club is significant. She has consistently been an outstanding performer over the years, gracing both The Anthem and 9:30 Club stages. Her return marks a full-circle moment and highlights her importance to the queer community in D.C.”
Earlier the same evening, the talented Perfume Genius will also perform at 9:30 Club, adding to the night’s excitement.
The week-plus-long celebration will culminate in a spectacular Closing Drag Show, featuring an energetic mix of drag and dance, with contestants from “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” Although the full lineup of participating Queens has yet to be released, anticipation is high.
As an official WorldPride partner, the 9:30 Club has been collaborating with the organizing committee for several months, aiming to make WorldPride in D.C. extraordinary. Additionally, $1 from each ticket sold will contribute to the Capital Pride Alliance, in support of WorldPride DC 2025.
